Mr Ian Foster

Ian Foster MRCVS

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated from the RVC in London in 1994 starting work at Rufford Vet Group or Hey and Greenwood as it was then known in the October of that year. I spent 3 years at the practice before leaving  to broaden my experience, moving to do a 6 month wild life residency in Cheshire then to a number of small animal practices in Edinburgh. Following my time in Edinburgh I moved back to the RVC in a teaching role for a year before coming back to where it all started back in Southport, working  for Rufford vets in 2003.

My interests are skin diseases  and ophthalmology as well as cardiology where I have recently started doing ultrasound assessments to add a further diagnostic option to our service.

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

I joined the practice in 2006 as a small animal vet. I enjoy working with all animals but particularly feline and canine patients. My main interests at work include soft tissue surgery and dental work. Outside work I enjoy playing tennis, other sports and travelling to foreign countries. In 2010,  I went to India for some volunteer work with an animal charity. This involved working with a wide range of species and helping with rabies control and neutering schemes and helping injured wildlife and sick pets.

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Having worked at RVG, off and on, for the last 15 years, I assume most people have met me in one form or another - I'm the blonde one with the pigtails!
I qualified in South Africa in 1990, having worked in a small animal practice there for 8 years. I returned to U.K, initially working in Hastings for a year and then I joined RVG in 1999. At this moment I share my life with my four dogs - some of which I show at local dog shows and have four cats - all unclaimed strays - who do their utmost to annoy the dogs!

Mr Owen Darby

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

I grew up in North Wales and qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1992. I love all aspects of my work and particularly enjoy challenging surgical cases. I have worked for Rufford Vets since 2007 and the staff here are the nicest bunch of people I have ever worked with.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my young family, walking our dogs and writing my series of fantasy fiction novels.

Ms Emily Gregson

Emily Gregson MRCVS

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2014. I can't remember a time when I didn't want to be a vet when I grew up. I started working for the practice as a receptionist before my degree so when the opportunity arose for me to re-join the practice as a vet I jumped at the chance. My interests within work are mainly medical, particularly dogs and cats. Outside of work I have varied interests that include reading, playing the piano, sewing and of course, my two border collies who keep me on my toes and very active.

Ms Darina Lawton

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from University College Dublin in 1990 and after briefly working in a local mixed practice in County Meath I moved to England to pursue a career in small animal practice. The intention was to return to Ireland after a few years but fate intervened when I met my husband in the first practice I worked at in Rochdale!

I joined "Hey and Greenwood" ,as Rufford Vet Group was then, the following year and (apart from maternity leaves) have worked here ever since.

We settled locally and I am kept busy outside work with our four children and two chocolate Labradors.
Though I am currently working part time I enjoy consulting; spending time with our lovely clients and meeting some wonderful characters (both animal and human!).

Ms Alison Speakman

I graduated from Glasgow University in 1991 and apart from a year in Australia, have always worked and lived locally. I have a PhD in feline respiratory disease and my particular areas of interest are feline medicine and canine endocrine disease. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, walking my Border Terrier, gardening and eating out.

I took a permanent job here in 2017 and moved to Southport with my family. I enjoy surgery and analgesia. In my spare time (what there is) I love to read and spent time with my family.
